Juneau combines delicious tastes and big thrills to make your cruise to Alaska unforgettable. The Taku Lodge Feast & 5-Glacier Seaplane Discovery will be the ultimate Alaskan shore excursion.

On this wonderful Taku Lodge excursion you will:

  • Travel in a classic de Havilland seaplane and ascend over 5 breathtaking glaciers within the Juneau Icefield, surrounded by the lush Tongass National Forest. Seeing glaciers by air is a once in a lifetime activity and doing it by Alaskan bush plane makes this a very special experience – a must-do!
  • All participants enjoy a window seat and headset for continuous narration.
  • Land on the Taku River, at the elegantly rustic and historic Taku Lodge, built in 1923 and located across from the 5-mile wide Taku Glacier, Juneau’s largest glacier.
  • Savor a menu of fresh wild Alaska King Salmon (or chicken alternative) and a variety of scrumptious side dishes, all made from scratch.

  • Infants are considered up to 23 months and may sit on the parents lap.
  • Children, 2 years of age and older, are required to have their own seat and are therefore required to have a ticket purchased for them.

Mendenhall Glacier

& Wildlife Quest

Excursion Details

This excursion is a chance to see two of Alaska’s natural wonders, the Mendenhall Glacier and its abundance of wildlife.

On this amazing excursion you will:

  • Stop at the recently renovated Glacier Center to visit with Forest Service interpreters.
  • Stroll the glacier-view path or take a short walk to watch salmon spawning in a nearby stream.
  • Take a scenic drive through the Mendenhall Valley, past Auke Lake to board a water jet-powered catamaran specially designed for wildlife viewing.
  • Relax in the warm, comfortable, spacious main cabin, surrounded by large windows as your captain guides you through Stephen’s Passage.
  • Listen as the on board naturalist explains the behavior and habitat of wildlife you may encounter.
  • Look for humpback and killer whales, sea lions, porpoises, harbor seals, bald eagles, and Sitka black-tailed deer.
  • Receive a $100 cash refund ($50 refund per child) if you do not see a whale. Don’t anticipate a refund; in the past 9 years, whales have been sighted on every excursion.

Notes: The vessel is restroom equipped, and binoculars and souvenir route guides are provided along with complimentary snacks and beverages.

Guests should be able to walk at least 250 yards on paved inclined pathways to fully enjoy sites at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Dress warmly and bring a rainproof jacket and don’t forget your camera!

*Tour operator is authorized under special use permit to access the Tongass National Forest. Does not include  walking on the glacier as only helicopter tours access the glacier. Visit at the glacier is self-guided as your driver is not permitted to conduct tours.
